การแปลภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญหรือพูดอีกว่าเป็นสิ่งที่จำเป็นอย่างหนึ่งกันเลยทีเดียวสำหรับครูภาษาอังกฤษ
โดยเฉพาะความรู้เรื่องพื้นฐานทางไวยากรณ์
งานแปลที่จะออกมาดีนั้น ผู้แปลต้องมีความรู้มากพอ เพราะว่าภาษาอังกฤษกับภาษาไทยจะแตกต่างกันมาก
และอีกเรื่องที่มีความสำคัญที่เราจะต้องรู้ คือ การลดรูปของ Adjective
clause เพราะว่าถ้าเราไม่มีความรู้เรื่องนี้
งานแปลของเราก็ไม่สมบูรณ์หรืออาจจะผิดไปจากสิ่งที่ผู้เขียนต้อการสื่อ
ดังนั้นเราจำเป็นต้องศึกษาเรื่องการลดรูปของ adjective clause ว่ามีอะไรบ้างดังต่อไปนี้
1. Appositive Noun Phrase:
adjective clause ซึ่งมี who, which และ that
เป็นประธาน สามารถลดรูปได้หาก who, which และ that
มี be ให้ตัด be ออก
เมื่อลดรูปแล้วจะเป็นดังตัวอย่างเช่น Prof.Chakarin, who is my thesis
adviser, will retire next year. Prof.Chakarin, my thesis adviser, will
retire next year. ตัวอย่างที่ 2 His novel, which is
entiled behind the picture, is very popular. ลดรูปเหลือ His
novel, behind the picture, is very popular.
2. Prepositional Phrase: adjective clause ที่มี who, which และ that เป็นประธาน สามารถลดรูปได้หากหลัง who, which และ that มีคำกริยาและคำบุพบท ถ้าตัดคำกริยาเหลือแต่คำบุพบท ยังมีความหมายเหมือนเดิม ให้ตัดคำกริยาออกได้ ดังตัวอย่างเช่น the lady who is dressed in the national costume is a beauty queen.ลดรูปเหลือ the lady in the national costume is a beauty queen. ตัวอย่างที่ 2 คือ The football player who came from Brazil received a warm welcome from his fans in Thailand. ลดรูปได้เป็น The football player from Brazil received a warm welcome from his fans in Thailand.

Infinitive Phrase: adjective clause ที่มี who, which และ that สามารถลดรูปได้ หากข้างหลังมีกริยาในรูป be+infinitive
with to ดังตัวอย่างเช่น He is the first person who is to
be blamed for the violence yesterday.สามารถลดรูปได้ He is
the first person to be blamed for the violence yesterday.
ตัวอย่างที่ 2 คือ The
researcher did not provide the specific statistics that can be used to test the
hypothesis. สามารถลดรูปได้คือ The researcher did not
provide the specific statistics used to test the hypothesis.

Participle Pharse 4.1) Present Participle Phrase:
adjective clause ซึ่งมี who เป็นประธาน
โดยตัด who และเปลี่ยนกริยาหลัง who เป็น
present participle (V.ing) ตัวอย่างเช่น The school
students who visited the national museum were very excited.สามารถลดรูปเป็น
The school students visiting the national museum were very excited. ตัวอย่างที่ 2 คือ The two robbers who had
escaped to Cambodia were arrested a week ago.สามารถลดรูปได้เป็น The
two robbers having escaped to Cambodia were arrested a week ago.

Part participle pharse: adjective clause ซึ่งมี
which และ who เป็นประธาน
สามารถลดรูปได้หากหลัง which และ who มีกริยาอยู่ในรูปของ
passive frome (be+past participle) สามารถลดรูปได้โดยตัด which
หรือ who และ be ออก
เหลือแต่ past participle ดังตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้ The
money which was lost during the trip was returned to its owner.สามารถลดรูปได้เป็น
The money lost during the trip was returned to its owner.ตัวอย่างที่
2 คือ His father, who was sent by his company to
New Zealand, developed lung cancer. สามารถลดรูปได้เป็น His
father, sent by his company to New Zealand, developed lung cancer.
ดังนั้นจึงสรุปได้ว่าการลดรูปของ Adjective มีทั้งหมด
4 ประเภท คือ 1. Appositive Noun Phrase
2.Preposition Phrase 3.Infinitive Phrase 4.Participle Phrase ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้มีความสำคัญต่อการแปลภาษาอังกฤษมาเป็นภาษาไยอย่างมาก
เพราะถ้าเราไม่รู้เรื่องนี้เราไม่สามารถรู้ได้เลยว่าคำที่ละคือคำอะไรและทำให้ประโยคที่แปลไม่สมบูรณ์หรืออาจจะขาดความได้
